Paragraph 18.2.13

Country in “Clancy the overflow’ is represented in a positive light unlike ‘My Brilliant Career’. This is because Clancy the overflow is written about Clancy, a man, where as Miles Franklin, the author of my brilliant career, is a woman and it has been written from a woman’s perspective. This changes the image that is created of the country in both pieces as most jobs in the country are considered ‘male’ roles leaving the women stuck at home. The positive representation AB Patterson creates in Clancy the overflow describes him outside droving, doing something he loves and having fun whilst doing it. The negative representation Miles Franklin creates in my brilliant career describes her feeling trapped, dreaming about going places and meeting people and getting an education. The representations are very different as one creates and mage of the country being free, happy and a great place to be (Clancy the overflow),  and the other creates the image of being trapped and wanting to escape to be able to live life to the fullest.
